SUMMARY:Shackleton
DESCRIPTION:It was a band formed for the sheer love of playing. A chance to regularly work their way through a fascinating set of covers without the pressure of their more serious career ventures. \nFormed by Mick Thomas\, Anna Burley (Killjoys) and Liz Stringer\, Shackleton3 was a holiday band – and a damn good one. Something to keep their hand in when not touring in their own respective right. \nThey played the pubs of the inner north of Melbourne and were the perfect soundtrack for dreamy winter Sunday evenings. Open fires\, red wine and dark beer were their companions as a dedicated following shared the intimate spaces. Football would be finished for the round and thoughts of the working week were expertly held at bay as the glorious harmonies swirled around the commanding vocals of Anna Burley. \nWhen Liz Stringer departed to live in the northern hemisphere the band played on a for another year with a revolving lineup but ultimately other projects took precedence and the band stopped playing – leaving behind one single album Just Turning Pages as testament to some nonchalantly magical performances. \nBut a good idea and a good concept will only remain dormant for so long and an impromptu two song reunion at the wake for an inner Melbourne punter stalwart got Mick and Anna thinking it’s time to revive the very idea if the band. Enter Olivia Bolmat from indi folk new-troubadours Norwood to complete the lineup and Shackleton3 2026 is set to go. \nThe only question now is what are you doing Sunday?

SUMMARY:The Pheasantry
DESCRIPTION:Yes. Alt country\, urban folk\, country rock\, rock n roll\, bluegrass and blues from the city or the swamp … call it what you will\, but these guys mix all this together\, and more. If all band members give the go\, it’s in. This mix is their sound\, and they love creating it\, and performing it. \nWith a huge original song list\, that started back in the early nineties\, this band has many influences. Carefully chosen covers rotated through the live set keeps them thinking\, and writing. From Tom Petty to Tom Wates\, Johnny Cash to Paul Kelly\, The Band\, Little Feat\, Tony Joe White …. The Pheasantry Band’s sound is catchy. \nIf you like real vocals in harmony\, real guitars with exiting electric twang\, fat upright bass and drums ready to explode\, make sure you see this five-piece band of cheeky Melbourne gentlemen. \nOver 30 years since these guys started writing and recording songs and grooves\, and they’re not about to stop. \nTheir style is infectious\, always tells a story and great to watch. They have fun!

SUMMARY:Billy Cart Crash
DESCRIPTION:Billy Cart Crash are a spirited three-piece band from Melbourne’s northern suburbs\, now coming to the big smoke at The Drunken Poet! \nThey blend rockabilly\, jump blues\, swing\, and swamp into a sound that’s uniquely their own. \nWith a hard-hitting slap double bass and high-octane guitar solos\, their original music invites listeners to dance\, unwind\, or rock out. Their songs pay homage to traditional rockabilly themes of “fast cars\, girls n bars”\, using these concepts as playful metaphors for the modern world. \nAt The Drunken Poet in June\, Billy Cart Crash will mix rockabilly roots and greaser flair with a contemporary feel and sound for a two set show!

SUMMARY:Ash King
DESCRIPTION:Ash King is a blues & roots singer-songwriter from Healesville in Victoria. \nWith his deep powerful voice and funky guitar work\, he balances soulful feel and raw energy. Think John Butler meets Johnny Cash at a BBQ and you’re not far off. As a solo acoustic artist and frontman of blues-rock band Smoke Stack Rhino\, Ash has taken his high-energy live show around Australia\, often having too much fun dancing across the stage with his guitar that he forgets to sing the next verse. \nOver the past year Ash has been recording his debut album. His songs have been described as uplifting\, honest\, thoughtful and fun. ‘I like the saying that “you don’t write the song\, the song writes you”’. Ash is an original storyteller\, an electrifying performer\, and a fresh voice in Australian blues & roots.

DESCRIPTION:Victor Stranges returns to the songs that shaped him with Get Stiffed – a rare\, one-night-only dive into the catalogue of Stiff Little Fingers\, the Irish punk band whose songs defined a generation. As a teenage drummer in Melbourne’s underground ’80s band Drunk ’n’ Disorderly\, Stranges cut his teeth on this material across the pub circuit. Now\, 37 years on\, he brings them back reinterpreted solo\, with weight and perspective. Expect material from the band’s early run through their first split in 1983\, spanning Inflammable Material (1979)\, Nobody’s Heroes (1980)\, Go For It (1981) and Now Then… (1982). SUMMARY:Thomas Rocky
DESCRIPTION:Thomas Rocky is a Melbourne based songwriter whose songs drift between intimate folk\, piano ballads\, and storytelling. Influenced from artists such as Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave\, his live performances are raw and deeply personal. With a focus on lyricism\, atmosphere\, and emotion\, Thomas aims to create a sense of intimacy only music can manifest. At The Drunken Poet\, he’ll be playing a stripped back set of original songs\, sharing stories and music in one of Melbournes most loved rooms for folk music.

SUMMARY:Craig Kelly & Joyce Prescher play the songs of Mark Lanegan
DESCRIPTION:Mark Lanegan was one of the great underrated singer-songwriters of the modern era\, with a deep\, smoky baritone drawing comparisons to Tom Waits\, Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave. Rising to prominence with Seattle grunge band The Screaming Trees (I Nearly Lost You)\, he went on to collaborate with close friend Kurt Cobain\, appeared as a featured voice across three Queens of the Stone Age albums\, and became the brooding foil to Belle & Sebastian’s Isobel Campbell across three dark-folk records echoing Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra — alongside countless other collaborations and 11 solo albums. \nPerformed by Craig Kelly with Joyce Prescher.

SUMMARY:Sherri Parry
DESCRIPTION:Sherri Parry has never sat comfortably in one box. This is especially true when it comes to her music. With a sound completely unique Parry blends genres unhesitatingly. Taking influence from solo artists such as Amy Winehouse\, Hayley Williams and Mitski Parry has birthed her own commanding sound in songwriting. Think jazz chords\, pop vocals\, folk storytelling\, soul emotion\, and whatever else is nearby. The only thing retaining a constant is the catchiness of her song writing and power of her lyricism. \nBorn and bred in regional Victoria\, Parry has been writing\, releasing and performing in Central VIC since 2013. She opened for Australian music royalty John Butler in 2019 at the Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival at Ulumburra theatre\, three months before releasing her full-length album ‘Leave The Flowers’ in February 2020. With COVID 19 dismissing any chance of a tour\, spent the isolation writing new music. Since January 2021\, Parry joined forces with Bendigo guitarist\, engineer and producer\, Tom Hadlow to start building the next project. Working through the heat of the summer\, the pair are independently recording and producing Parry’s new songs for her upcoming new album. The songs embody the feeling of melancholy\, desperation\, and anger shifting Parry’s music in a very new direction.
