SUMMARY:Victor Stranges plays the songs of Stiff Little Fingers
DESCRIPTION:Victor Stranges returns to the songs that shaped him with Get Stiffed – a rare\, one-night-only dive into the catalogue of Stiff Little Fingers\, the Irish punk band whose songs defined a generation. As a teenage drummer in Melbourne’s underground ’80s band Drunk ’n’ Disorderly\, Stranges cut his teeth on this material across the pub circuit. Now\, 37 years on\, he brings them back reinterpreted solo\, with weight and perspective. Expect material from the band’s early run through their first split in 1983\, spanning Inflammable Material (1979)\, Nobody’s Heroes (1980)\, Go For It (1981) and Now Then… (1982). Tuesday 28 July\, 8:00pm at The Drunken Poet.

SUMMARY:THE PRAIRIE OYSTERS playing the songs of THE SMITHEREENS!
DESCRIPTION:DAVE MILES and MICK EVANS (from THE PRAIRIE OYSTERS) present the songs of the best \nband you’ve never heard of: THE SMITHEREENS. \nIt took some hard decisions to trim the set down when you have 7 albums of masterful power pop to choose from. But they have curated a 1 hour goldmine of great and memorable songs\, from the achingly beautiful “CIGARETTE” to the stomping “TOP OF THE POPS”. \nIn an intimate “unplugged” setting\, these songs will be stripped back to their essence to get a long- delayed hearing by Mick (drums\, percussion and vocals) and Dave (guitar\, harmonica and vocals).

SUMMARY:Ash King
DESCRIPTION:Ash King is a blues & roots singer-songwriter from Healesville in Victoria. \nWith his deep powerful voice and funky guitar work\, he balances soulful feel and raw energy. Think John Butler meets Johnny Cash at a BBQ and you’re not far off. As a solo acoustic artist and frontman of blues-rock band Smoke Stack Rhino\, Ash has taken his high-energy live show around Australia\, often having too much fun dancing across the stage with his guitar that he forgets to sing the next verse. \nOver the past year Ash has been recording his debut album. His songs have been described as uplifting\, honest\, thoughtful and fun. ‘I like the saying that “you don’t write the song\, the song writes you”’. Ash is an original storyteller\, an electrifying performer\, and a fresh voice in Australian blues & roots.

SUMMARY:Billy Cart Crash
DESCRIPTION:Billy Cart Crash are a spirited three-piece band from Melbourne’s northern suburbs\, now coming to the big smoke at The Drunken Poet! \nThey blend rockabilly\, jump blues\, swing\, and swamp into a sound that’s uniquely their own. \nWith a hard-hitting slap double bass and high-octane guitar solos\, their original music invites listeners to dance\, unwind\, or rock out. Their songs pay homage to traditional rockabilly themes of “fast cars\, girls n bars”\, using these concepts as playful metaphors for the modern world. \nAt The Drunken Poet in June\, Billy Cart Crash will mix rockabilly roots and greaser flair with a contemporary feel and sound for a two set show!

SUMMARY:Shackleton
DESCRIPTION:It was a band formed for the sheer love of playing. A chance to regularly work their way through a fascinating set of covers without the pressure of their more serious career ventures. \nFormed by Mick Thomas\, Anna Burley (Killjoys) and Liz Stringer\, Shackleton3 was a holiday band – and a damn good one. Something to keep their hand in when not touring in their own respective right. \nThey played the pubs of the inner north of Melbourne and were the perfect soundtrack for dreamy winter Sunday evenings. Open fires\, red wine and dark beer were their companions as a dedicated following shared the intimate spaces. Football would be finished for the round and thoughts of the working week were expertly held at bay as the glorious harmonies swirled around the commanding vocals of Anna Burley. \nWhen Liz Stringer departed to live in the northern hemisphere the band played on a for another year with a revolving lineup but ultimately other projects took precedence and the band stopped playing – leaving behind one single album Just Turning Pages as testament to some nonchalantly magical performances. \nBut a good idea and a good concept will only remain dormant for so long and an impromptu two song reunion at the wake for an inner Melbourne punter stalwart got Mick and Anna thinking it’s time to revive the very idea if the band. Enter Olivia Bolmat from indi folk new-troubadours Norwood to complete the lineup and Shackleton3 2026 is set to go. \nThe only question now is what are you doing Sunday?

SUMMARY:Knox D’Arcy Concession
DESCRIPTION:Knox D’Arcy Concession are a Melbourne northern‑suburbs folk/country‑punk drinking band built for crowded pubs\, late nights and Guinness-stained shirts. Delivering high‑energy party songs with a distinctly Australian grit\, the band blends Celtic‑leaning folk\, punk urgency\, and classic pub‑rock swagger into sets designed to keep the bar heaving and the chorus shouted back at the stage. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeaturing members from acts including The Living End\, Raised by Eagles\, The Drunken Poachers and Streams of Whisky — Knox D’Arcy Concession bring seasoned musicianship to unapologetically fun\, hook‑driven songs. Equal parts rowdy and tight\, they’re at home in sticky‑floored band rooms\, late‑night festival tents\, and anywhere a good party needs a soundtrack. \n\n
